According to the common usage of the word, the term Pharisee is synonymous with legalist. This is the concept that many people have in mind when they use this label.

However, before we draw parallels between people today and the Pharisees in Jesus’ day, we need to understand the reasons why the Pharisees were wrong. By doing this, we can see who the real Pharisees are today. They are probably not who we would expect.

The Plan of Salvation (cover)We would like to announce our newest title – The Plan of Salvation: Made Plain to the Sinner by John H. Hundley – is now available.

John H. Hundley (1796-1881) spent most of his life in the area of Mooresville, Limestone County, Alabama. Once a member of the Presbyterian Church, his open-minded study of the Scriptures – along with the influence of Walter Scott’s journal The Evangelist – led him to be immersed into Christ and help found the church of Christ in Mooresville.

In The Plan of Salvation, Hundley endeavored to present the gospel message about how a sinner can be saved from his sin. Originally published in 1858, this material explains how people obeyed the gospel in the first century, how they needed to do so in the 19th century, and how we must do so today.

In it we see God’s expectations of holiness for His people and a foreshadowing of the perfect sacrifice of Christ.

John Campbell Roady (1887-1976) preached the gospel for over seventy years, traveling all over the country and baptizing over 15,000 souls into Christ. Part of his efforts in preaching included his work as a writer.

To Sum the Whole Thing Up is a collection of writings containing three booklets published by Roady – What the Church of Christ Believes and Teaches and Why It Teaches It, The Plea of the Church of Christ, and Christ and His Church – in addition to several articles of his that were published in the Apostolic Review.
