A study of church history helps us understand present-day conditions in the religious world and the origin of the various denominations. It also helps us to have a greater appreciation for the church in the New Testament. This study should serve as a warning against the introduction of innovations and errors, no matter how innocent and insignificant they may appear.

Donald Townsley (1931-2013) was a preacher of the gospel of Christ who devoted himself to that work for over fifty years. In Church History, Townsley outlines the history of the church, departures from the faith that led to the formation of various denominations, and attempts at reformation and later restoration. Special emphasis is given to the Restoration Movement and various issues that impacted churches of Christ in the 20th century.

Townsley’s ability to condense a vast amount of information into a concise volume arranged in an easy to digest outline makes this book a valuable reference work for anyone interested in a history of the church, the falling away, and the restoration.

NEW RELEASE: Church History for Busy People

We would like to announce our newest title – Church History for Busy People by George A. Klingman – is now available.

Church History for Busy People (cover)George A. Klingman (1865-1939) – son-in-law of I. B. Grubbs – was a preacher, writer, and teacher during the first part of the twentieth century. He was described by Richard Thomas Hughes as “a pioneer in…higher education” and “probably the best-educated preacher in Churches of Christ during the first third of the twentieth century.” His educational career included work with Abilene Christian College, Potter Bible College, and Cincinnati Bible Seminary.

In Church History for Busy People, Klingman traces the changes made in church organization, doctrine, and worship since the time of the first century. He discusses the various sects, creeds, reforms, persecutions, and movements that have been part of this history. Since this material was written in 1909, it only traces this history up to that point. However, this book continues to be a valuable resource for reference even today.

“Early History of the Disciples in the Western Reserve” – Now Available for Pre-Order

We’re excited to announce a new release from Gospel Armory – Early History of the Disciples in the Western Reserve by Amos S. Hayden.

Early History of the Disciples in the Western Reserve (Hayden) - coverFirst published in 1875, Early History of the Disciples in the Western Reserve chronicles the beginnings of the Restoration Movement in Northeast Ohio. This volume contains valuable lessons from both the successes and shortcomings of these men who forsook the churches of men and endeavored to return to the pattern found in the New Testament.

This book is scheduled to be released on March 13, 2012. But starting today it is available for pre-order. If you pre-order, you can get this for the special price of $17.99 (28% off the retail price).
